A 27 year old City of Poughkeepsie man shot and killed by police last Saturday has been identified as Shiquan Krouser.
The incident occurred shortly after 5:30 AM when officers were called to the area near the intersection of Main and Academy streets for a man yelling and screaming at cars as he tried to stop them.
Upon arriving at the scene Krouser attacked Officer Rene Knapp, a seven year veteran of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, in her patrol car with a box cutter.
Krauser was then shot and killed by a second officer; Zachary McKinnon. McKinnon has been on the force for two years.
Knapp was transported to the hospital where she received treatment for lacerations to her face, neck and arms.
The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave.
Witnesses at the scene said the man was acting crazy and chasing cars. Video sources of the area were reviewed and confirmed that scenario as well as showing Krouser attacking officer Knapp in her vehicle.
